Salary: $1000-$1500 per summer, DOE and number of students monitoring. Mileage and parking reimbursement for site visits.
BACKGROUND
The mission of Saturday Academy is to engage children through in-depth learning so they may become life-long learners. We provide hands-on classes and camps, after-school programs and a high school apprenticeship program in science and engineering (ASE). Since it was founded in 1983, SA has served over 165,000 students and currently serves approximately 6,000 students each year. SA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization affiliated with the University of Portland (UP).
RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Saturday Academy teacher monitor you are responsible to assist with summer internships. You will act as a liaison between interns, mentors, and the ASE program staff and represent the ASE program in the wider community. Teachers who participate work with top high school students and gain unique opportunities for professional development. Coordination and communication with all staff members at Saturday Academy is essential.
- Attend orientations and assist with ASE Program events.
- Coordinate and conduct on-site interviews initial interviews at internship location twice during the summer.
- Document site visits with reporting and photography.
- Confer with the ASE Director regarding potential problems or issues in the internships.
- Serve as communications liaison, problem-solver and facilitator for mentor and intern.
- Assist students with thank you letters and internship summaries.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Current or retired educator or counselor.
- Teaching or education background in one or more STEM field.
- Reliable vehicle and clean-driving record.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with high school students.
