How would technology be different if 50% of the creators were female?
Saturday Academy is dedicated to inspiring girls to follow their curiosity in technology and engineering, where women are currently under-represented. We do this through classes & camps designed specifically for girls and our Girls Engage Technology (GET) program.
Our GET Program is designed to provide positive programming and engineering experiences to young girls in order to increase their confidence and interest in technology. The program exposes two age groups of girls to the next step of expertise in technology creation. Teens, with some experience in programming or engineering, are trained by professional (female) mentors to lead projects for 4th and 5th grade girls (who don’t yet know they can be successful).
We bring all the expertise and materials to groups of girls to complete electronics or programming modules. This program is grant supported and free to all girls participating.
Research shows that girls’ confidence, especially in areas dominated by boys, comes directly from demonstrated competence. The leadership of energetic high school girls is a key factor in expanding the younger girls’ ideas of “what girls do” to include technology and engineering.
