SA2U brings Saturday Academy’s hands-on, in-depth classes taught by community experts to your neighborhood school. These on-site classes are available after-school and during late-opening days Monday through Friday. School administrators, teachers, after-school program coordinators or individual parents may schedule a class for their school. Occasionally, grant funding for individual schools or students is available. Tuition assistance is available to all students. SA2U classes are:

open to any student attending the school where the class is held;
designed for students in grades 2-8 (multi-grade classes for 2-3 , 3-5 , 6-8);
inquiry- and project-based classes that offer application of academic concepts in a supportive environment;
adjusted to accommodate specific academic ability levels and learning goals;
taught by content-area experts;
designed to support students in developing skills needed to meet Oregon State Benchmarks and standards;
available for up to 12 students per class.

No tests, No homework, No grades

Logistics

Select from the following:

School/Organization Model

$165 per contact hour, paid as one sum to Saturday Academy by the school/organization. (ex.: 1.5 hour class meeting eight times is $1,980)
Some classes may require an additional materials or equipment rental fee (see class descriptions for details).
Classes that exceed maximum enrollment, with pre-approval from the School-Based Program Coordinator, will be charged an additional $50 per student.
The site coordinator is responsible for advertising the class, registering the students and collecting demographics.

Student Model

$155 per student for a nine-hour class (1.5 hour class meeting six times)

$165 per student for a twelve-hour class (1.5 hour class meeting eight times)
The site coordinator is responsible for advertising the class and parents register and submit payment to Saturday Academy using a link provided to the site coordinator.

NOTE: What is the model for Late-opening? Is it different?

Wondering what to do with students at your school on late -opening days? Schedule a Saturday Academy mini-class. These 90– to 120-minute, STEM– or STEAM-focused mini-classes are held at your school before the school day begins. These Saturday Academy classes have been developed to be offered as a series for up to 14 students per class. Contact your school principal for permission to offer these classes.
*Late-opening days for Portland Public Schools will occur in September, October, December, January, February, March, April and May.

Order classes for your school:
Classes can be purchased in groups of four or eight. Each set of four classes will be from one subject area:

Engineering
Forensics
Geology
Math
Programming
Science

Classes purchased in a set of four: $215 each. Classes purchased in a set of eight: $200 each. Maximum of 14 students per class.
