Students learn how things fly by applying Newton’s Three Laws of Motion to rockets and planes. They build a balloon-powered rocket car, paper rockets with drinking straw propulsion or liter-size pop-bottle rockets. They investigate the principals of flight and gain hands-on experience designing, building and launching a model rocket. They learn how rocket fuel can be improved by conducting antacid tablet races. In the final class, students launch their rockets and learn how to use triangulation and altitude trackers to calculate how high the rocket flies.
