Jeri’s mother told her she could grow up to be anything she wanted. Thinking she could grow into different species, she practiced being a horse but later tried back yard archeology and practiced to be a cellist, a dancer and a singer. Eventually her fascination with how we learn and why we behave as we do lead her to become a professor of neuroscience. She taught and did research for 25 years on the brain basis of learning and memory during early development and in aging at the University of California, San Diego, University of Oregon and Oregon Health and Science University. It is her passion for science and the message from her mother to follow her curiosity that brought her to an encore career as Saturday Academy’s executive director in 2011. Her favorite part of the job is learning something new every day from the staff, our many advisors and of course, the kids.
