I work for Portland Public Schools and in the summers I usually have Fridays free, so I decided this year to volunteer some of my time to work with the Saturday Academy. I am familiar with the organization because my daughter had taken a few classes in the past (Street Photography, as part of the arts curriculum at SA, and a computer coding class) and really enjoyed them; the office was close to home and it felt like a good fit.
During my time volunteering I worked on various projects from updating subscriber lists, entering student feedback data, website content and assisting with the ASE Symposium. I applaud SA on the Volunteer program. I felt like the tasks were meaningful and supportive of the work. One of my favorite experiences was assisting with the ASE Symposium, it was awe-inspiring; I loved seeing the work and research the students completed from their internships.
The staff here is amazing, I appreciated the welcoming environment. And, for a small organization SA delivers a powerful resource to kids and families. My support is with you!
