Salary: $13,500 - $16,000 DOE
POSITION SUMMARY
The mission of Saturday Academy is to engage children through in-depth learning so they may become life-long learners. We provide hands-on classes and camps, after-school programs and a high school apprenticeship program in science and engineering (ASE). Since it was founded in 1983, SA has served over 165,000 students and currently serves approximately 6,000 students each year. SA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization affiliated with the University of Portland (UP).
This position is a unique opportunity to gain experience in supporting the vital areas of operations and instructor support in a thriving educational nonprofit. Saturday Academy runs more than 500 open enrollment classes and 15 day camps each year.
This position reports directly to the Director of Classes & Camps, Michelle DelCarlo. Close coordination between this position and operations staff members is essential, as is open communication with all Saturday Academy staff members.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide communication support for instructors
- Design and coordinate information packets
- Assist with on-boarding new instructors, including human resources paperwork
- Track instructor contracts, course evaluations and reimbursements to instructors for incidental supplies
- Support the Classes and Camps program, including assisting with coordination of instructor professional development, streamlining processes, field trip scheduling and logistics
- Assist the Operations Department in on-site room assignment coordination and communicating assignments to instructors
- Data entry support
- Specific seasonal responsibilities. For example, in the summer, greet and help sign in students on the first day of class
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent administrative computer skills including data entry and analysis, word processing and spreadsheet management
- Excellent customer service and communication management skills
- Ability to track multiple deadlines and projects
- Excellent organizational skills in electronic filing, calendaring, and physical spaces
- High level of oral and written communication skills
- Flexibility and a sense of humor
- Demonstrated interest in providing educational opportunities to youth
- Access to a reliable vehicle, driver’s license and insurance for material delivery, instructor meetings, and site visits (mileage reimbursed)
- Must be able to lift and move boxes and books and supplies (up to 20 pounds each) and use handcarts to transport supplies in and out of vehicles, storage areas, and/or classrooms
- Experience and comfort with databases
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with Salesforce
- Experience installing, troubleshooting, and researching computer hardware and software
- Spanish speaking skills
