"If you were in a sudden emergency, what kind of doctor would you want?" Discover the high-intensity role of an Emergency Medicine (ER) physician. Learn how to take thorough medical histories on the fly, and the ins-and-outs of a physical exam and taking vital signs. Walk through case studies that explore the challenges faced in such a fast-paced environment, and hear testimonies from medical students in the profession. As an E.M. doctor, you treat infants, kids, teens, adults, and the elderly; you treat the poor and the rich; the insured and uninsured - it doesn't matter. In a way, you are a jack-of-all-trades, but a master of none. Your job as an EM doctor is to rule out the emergencies - that is, rule out anything that can and will kill the person (or leave them worse off than when they came in). As a result, you have to be able to solve problems quickly, not just physically, but mentally too. You have to be able to handle (and arguably thrive in) high-intensity situations like traumas, stabbings, gunshots, etc.
