“ I still have the memory of my ASE summer experience in the back of my mind today, motivating me through tough college courses like anatomy and physiology.”
Haley is currently a student at Linfield Good Samaritan School of Nursing
“ASE had a huge impact on my college career, since I spent the first 3 years of my undergraduate degree working in the lab I had interned at through ASE. On top of my research, my choice of major was influenced by my work at the lab, which has improved my life and led to the career I have today.”
Johnathan is currently a Software Engineer at Google.
“It opened up a world of opportunity I never thought possible. It made me look beyond the hidden veil and dig deep within possible career choices. With the help on my mentor I discovered all that stem fields can offer and it pushed me towards pursuing a career that suits my interests and can have an impact on others. I am extremely thankful for this amazing opportunity that I was given for it changes my life completely. From a lost, unsure girl I became a curious, confident woman. Thank you ASE.”
Valeria is currently a Medical Scribe for Scribe America.
“My experiences at Reed College's Nuclear Reactor through ASE changed everything in my life, honestly. I'm motivated, distinguished, with unique professional experience and expertise. My passion for science that I discovered and developed through ASE has now led me to shape my life goals and college choices around what I hope to do someday in the science and international relations schools.”
Elizabeth is currently at Senior at Beaverton High School
“ASE was my first chance to be involved with actual research. Before my ASE experience, I wasn't sure what field of science I would study in college. After, I was set on pursuing Physics; I'm convinced that my ASE participation was a major contributor to getting into Caltech. I went into college confident that I could do real research as an undergraduate because of participating in ASE.”
Jasmine is currently pursuing Ph.D. in Optical Sciences at University of Arizona.
"It's been FABULOUS for him personally, as he has been quite shy, so has grown exponentially from this experience. His mentors have been SUPER supportive of him, and he's made additional connections with others his mentors know that have really encouraged him. I think this has also gone a long way toward his maturing into college-readiness for fall, 2017.”
"The love of chemistry and passion for understanding the world harbored within each person in this lab motivates me every single day to be more like the people I work with. As a result, I rediscovered in myself a certain curiosity that pushes me to learn even more."
“The skill of critical thinking is something that could never be taught in the classroom but must be learned out in the field. This was the biggest takeaway I could ever ask for."
“Words can’t truly describe how happy I was to work with people who share similar interest as I do. The overall experience was a dream that came true and it truly does pain me that summer ended so soon. Next year, I hope you participate in the ASE program so you may fulfill another person’s dreams you did mine.”
“I have always loved science classes in school because I got the chance to investigate and learn about the world. After this summer, I know that I love working in a lab as well, because you and the people you work with never stop investigating and learning.”
"His ASE internship at IBM was a highlight of our son’s high school career. He not only enjoyed the work at IBM, he enjoyed all of you and it was because of his positive IBM experience he has chosen to pursue Computer Science."
“Working with your team has taught me a lot about what science is really like. Before, my only experience with science has been classroom-based – where all the data makes sense… But I can see that that is not the case.”
“Your guidance helped me gain confidence in myself and the path I am taking.”
“The most important lesson would have to be on the sheer scope of knowledge, known and unknown. The skills I’ve learned will help me throughout life, but the change to my perspective will affect me for years.”
“My summer research experience has definitely lead me to discover more of who I am: I have been swayed over to the biochemistry side of science, and I am certain that I will aim for graduate school.”
