The Apprenticeships in Science and Engineering (ASE) Symposium is the culminating learning event of the summer and enables the students to organize and synthesize their internship experiences. ASE interns present their work through poster sessions and 15-minute oral presentations. This enrichment activity is designed to broaden technical exposure and improve their speaking and presentation skills. Participants review and ask questions of peers’ projects and conclusions. Symposium is designed to broaden students’ technical expertise and strengthen their formal public speaking skills. It is also a critical learning event that enables interns to organize and synthesize what they’ve learned in the course of the internship.
ASE intern presentations include
- What Birds and Bricks Have in Common: Android App Development (Portland State University)
- Know Safety, No Pain. No Safety, Know Pain (Bonneville Power Administration)
- The Economic Benefit of Giant Sequoias on the Heating and Cooling of Buildings (University of Portland)
- Barcodes and X-men: Identifying and Discovering the World Around You (Digimarc)
- Injury-induced Changes in Corneal Neuropeptides are Associated with Increased Eye Pain (OHSU)
- ...and more!
This is a required event for all ASE interns. Mentors, parents and community guests are encouraged to attend.
