Hello, my name is Peter Van Vleet. I am in seventh grade and I love sloths. I have taken Saturday Academy classes before but never have been in the office. So I volunteered for two weeks and I think I did projects for each department.
At Saturday Academy I made folders for the ASE Midsummer Conference, unboxed laptops for classes, printed SAT handouts, checked chemistry sets, processed workshop evaluations, made name tags and sorted lots and lots of LEGOs (to the point I’m not sure if I like them anymore, but it was still fun!)
Also I saw what happens behind the scenes of the Apprenticeships in Science & Engineering (ASE) Program and met new people along the way. I learned how a copier works, that modern day printers can staple your papers for you and what my mom Libby Van Vleet, ASE Program Coordinator, does when I am away from her.
Volunteering at Saturday Academy I saw how much these people work to make the classes happen, and I even got a sneak peak at the classes for the fall. Here are some classes that I was interested in:
- Writing for Video Games - In this class you learn how to craft a story and turn it into a game.
- Electronic Music - You get to write and record a brand new song of your own.
- And finally, App Inventor - In this class you develop your own Android app with MIT's App Inventor.
I can’t wait to sign up!
A note from our Communications Department: Fall classes go live online in mid-August. If you would like to receive a print catalog and you are not on our mailing list, click here.
